I am not looking for anything more than friendship. I have been living all over the world and just settled down in Portland, OR so it really is about meeting new people and building a community. I have plenty of self confidence, lots of intelligence, and not into judging or being judged, so that automatically excludes me from being dateable in the gay community and I'm fine with that, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be a good friend to have around. I love the outdoors and am an environmentalist, political activist, vegetarian and returned Peace Corps Volunteer. I respond quite well to directness and honesty and when someone says "we should meet up for a drink or coffee" I expect them to follow through and have a day, time and place in mind. I've been told that by being comfortable with myself at all times and by being so independent and strong-willed, I'm intimidating. It's not a conscious effort, I just know who I am and I'm happy about it. Yes...I'm an all around happy person. :-)

Hard to say what my ideal first date would be because I wouldn't want to know what to expect. I like originality and thinking outside of the ordinary. It could be wild and crazy like a rafting trip or drum circle. It could be sophisticated like a gallery opening or a wine tasting. Or it could be intimate like a dinner cooked at home followed by a conversation and a walk around the neighborhood. What ever it is, it would have to reflect the personality of the person that planned it (or maybe didn't plan it and just let it happen). But...dinner and a movie? Boring!

My idea of fun depends on the time and the day. Sometimes I love to go have a drink with my friends and sit around talking and laughing. Other times I love to spend a quiet night at home listening to jazz or blues and reading or painting or cooking. Some times I love to take long walks through Washington Park or Downtown, or hop on my bike and pedal until my legs hurt. Sometimes I love losing myself at a dance club, although that's getting harder to do as I feel so many judgemental eyes. I love to smoke hookah and down some beers and camp and swim and taste wine and eat cheese and volunteer and play volleyball and watch rugby and smell the roses. I also love politics. Mostly I enjoy any deep conversation where I learn about another person and the way they see/feel/touch/taste/smell the world.
